Detail

St. Andrew's Cathedral is one of the Orthodox churches in the city of Oskemen. The temple, erected in 2008, is made in the best traditions of Russian Orthodox architecture.

The five-field cathedral with its high tented bell tower above the central entrance is located on the territory of the Holy Trinity Monastery in the city and is designed for two thousand parishioners. The construction of the church began on the initiative of the church authorities, namely Metropolitan Alexis of Tula and Efremovsky (Kutepov) (then Archbishop of Almaty and Nur Sultan), and former Abbot of the Holy Trinity Monastery - Abbot Platon (Divenko). They appealed to the former akim of the East Kazakhstan region V. Mette with a petition to allocate a plot of land for the erection of a new cathedral. V. Mette supported the idea, while the allocation of funds from the budget was not expected.

A new church was built in 2001 near the Holy Trinity Monastery. Architectural image of the future temple was occupied by a group of architects, led by the chief architect of the project, Yuri Mikhailovich Trashkov.

By mid-2006, the building of the new church acquired the kind that can be seen today. The first moleben in the newly-erected building of the temple was completed in August 2006. The solemn consecration of St. Andrew's Cathedral was held in 2008.

The cathedral has three altars: the main one - in honor of the Apostle Andrew, the right - in honor of the great martyr and healer Panteleimon, the left - in the name of the holy martyrs of Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia. The creation of the magnificent, snow-white four-tier iconostasis of the St. Andrew's Cathedral was worked by Russian masters in Volgodonsk.

After finishing the cathedral became a kind of visiting card of the modern city of Oskemen.
